New York and Mexico City

Easter trip to New York and Mexico City

Easter is a convenient time to travel for Icelanders as we have a fair number of days off around the Easter weekend, making it relatively easy to take a couple of weeks vacation. This year it was decided to go to Mexico City, with a few days stopover in New York on the way.

New York is New York. Great for walking around and snapping photos, good restaurants on every corner and very expensive. There’s really no place like it.

Mexico City was a new experience, functional chaos is one way to describe it I think. Quite difficult for me in terms of photography since I like one or two things in a photo, not twenty. Also I found the light challenging, clear skies and high altitude make for some really harsh light for most of the day. Very interesting place to visit though, you can enjoy both the good life and experience the complete chaos of areas like the markets in La Merced.

Worth a mention is the Museo Nacional de Antropología, one of the most interesting museums I’ve been to. Normally I zone out after an hour in such a place, but the exhibitions of artifacts from the various ancient Mexican cultures were enough to keep me there for a whole day.
